The Wedge Tailed Eagle 1 oz silver coin was first introduced in 2014 and since 2016 has featured new annual designs. The Wedge Tailed Eagle is another brilliant wildlife theme silver coin from the Perth Mint.
The Wedge Tailed Eagle is the largest bird of prey in Australia and has a wingspan of up to 9 foot 4 inches and a length of up to 3 foot 6 inches. The Wedge Tailed Eagle can also be found in New Guinea and Indonesia.
The 2019 Wedge Tailed Eagle 1 oz silver coin is 99.99% pure silver and will have a maximum mintage of 50,000 coins.
2019 represents the 4th design release in the series and was created by former US Mint engraver John Mercanti.
The Wedge Tailed Eagle is a sovereign coin backed by the Australian Government and produced by the renowned Perth Mint.
The motif side of the coin depicts a Wedge Tailed Eagle with outstretched wings and talons extended forwards. Sun rays are displayed emanating in the background. The Inscriptions on the outer edge are the name of the coin “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE”, the date of issue “2019” and the fine weight and purity “1 oz 9999 SILVER”. The Perth Mints famous “P” mint mark can be seen on the left near the coins edge.
The value side of the coin depicts the Jody Clark effigy of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The queen is shown wearing the same royal crown she wore at her coronation. The inscriptions on the outer edge are the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II”, the country of origin “AUSTRALIA” and the face value “1 DOLLAR”.
