History "Shark Series"
The Shark series from the renowned Australian Perth Mint was announced in early 2014 and began with the Great White Shark silver coin in April 2014. This was followed in 2015 with the Hammerhead Shark silver coin and 2016 is the Tiger Shark, which is the last edition. The series was designed for three years, each with one silver coin and a circulation of 300,000 pieces. The coins are exclusively minted with a fine weight of ½ oz.
Name, year of issue fineness and fine weight

The Australian Tiger Shark ½ oz 2016 silver coin has an edge bar and a rippled edge. The edge bar is for coin stability, improved stackability and protects the design against scratches and other damages. The coin appearance is matt and offers a wider motif, which was not the case with the Great White Shark and Hammerhead silver coins.
The obverse depicts a Tiger Shark, recognizable by its strips. The background motif is typical sea vegetation with sand and shells. Above and below the design, in a peripherally limited area, the lettering is embossed. Above the motif the name of the coin "Tiger Shark" can be seen. Below the topic the year of issue, fine weight, fineness and purity are imprinted as "2016 ½ oz Silver 9999". The embossed characters "P", which can be seen just below the shark’s head, represents the Mint "Perth Mint".
The back is a traditional motif of the Perth Mint and shows Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with crown. The label is also the edge, in a demarcated strip, and is imprinted with the following words: Elizabeth II, Australia, 50 cents.
