Product Description

The new 2017 Lunar II Rooster 1oz silver coins are the first Lunar II Silver coins that have a purity of 999.9/1000. Similar to the 2016 1oz Silver Monkey, the Rooster is minted with a maximum circulation of 300,000 pieces. The Lunar Series II silver coins are manufactured by the world renowned Australian Perth Mint.

This is the 10th release of the Lunar II Silver coins series. Each year the front of the coin is minted with a brand new design. This feature makes it an attractive coin for both investors and collectors.

Size, Weight & Alloy

In addition to the Silver Kangaroo, the Perth Mint has also minted Lunar II silver coins with the higher fineness of 999.9/1000. Thus, the coin series, together with the Canadian Maple Leaf silver coins are the purest silver products in the world.

The fine weight of the coin is 31.103 g which is exactly 1oz. Like the predecessor, the Lunar II Rooster 1oz 2017 has a thickness of 2.6 mm with the slightly increased diameter of 45.6 mm. The nominal value is 1 AUD.

Appearance

The appearance of the Lunar II Rooster silver coins features the typical edge bar and rippled edge. The edge bar protects the motif and the stackability of the coin is improved. The rippled edge serves as a protection against counterfeiting.

Front

The obverse of the coin depicts a rooster and a hen with three little chickens. The rooster is looking toward the hen on the left side. Below the hen three chicks are shown. On the left side you can see the Mint Mark "P" which stands for Perth Mint.

At the top and to the right leaves and grass are shown. The Chinese character for "rooster" can be seen in the top left corner. Around the outer edge fine and uneven lines are imprinted but only on the front of the coin.

Back

As with all Commonwealth gold and silver coins, the back of the coins depicts the Regent of the United Kingdom, in this case Queen Elizabeth II. She is shown in profile with a diadem on her head and earring. Directly under the motif the initials "IRB" are stamped. They belong to the artist Ian Rank-Broadley who made the presentation of the Queen.

The following inscription can be seen on the back:

  • Elizabeth II
  • Australia
  • 1oz 9999 Ag
  • 2017
  • $ 1

Tips

The two main factors that mostly contribute to the Silver price are first, the price of the metal Silver, which trades on the various exchanges around the world. This is often referred to as the the “silver spot price”.

The second factor is the premium. In addition to the spot price, silver coins and bars carry a premium. The premium covers the costs and margin of the mint and the precious metals dealer. Premiums can vary widely so it is always a good idea to compare prices. However, it is recommended to buy from a reputable dealer with a wide selection of silver products.

Another factor when buying silver coins in the European Union is the VAT. However, CelticGold provides the Silver Lunar II coin series VAT free through our Estonian branch. To learn more about buying VAT free silver coins from CelticGold please follow the link here.
