The Lunar II series from the Perth Mint, celebrates the animals of the 12 year Chinese Zodiac cycle. The series began in 2008 with the “Year of the Rat” (Mouse) and ends in 2019 with the “Year of the Pig”. 2017 is the “Year of the Rooster”.

Each year the design on the front of the coin changes to correspond to an animal in the Chinese Zodiac. The original Lunar series was launched in 1996 and ran for 12 years, concluding in 2007.

The series was so successful that the Perth Mint decided to introduce the Lunar II series in 2008. These cons have become some of the most popular bullion products in the world. Because of the annual design changes, the series not only appeals to investors but also to collectors.


The front of the coin features and image of a rooster, hen and three chicks. The inscriptions on the front include; the mint mark “P” which stands for the Perth Mint; the Chinese character for “Rooster”; and the words “Year of the Rooster”.

The reverse side of the coin feature and image of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The image of the Queen is a classic symbol found on many commonwealth coins. The inscriptions on the reverse include; the weight and purity “10oz 9999 AG”; the year “2017”; and the nominal value “10 Dollars”
