The Lunar II gold and silver coin series from the Perth Mint is one of the most popular bullion coins programs in the world. Each year features a new design based on the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac.
The series began with the “Year of the Rat” in 2008 and ends in 2019 with the “Year of the Pig”. The Lunar II series follows the very successful Lunar I series which was first launched in 1996.
The 1 oz Silver Lunar II Pig is 99.99% pure silver and will have a maximum mintage of 300,000 coins. People born under the rule of the Pig are said to be sincere, genuine, honest and easy going. The Lunar II Pig Silver coin is available in 10 kilo, 1 kilo, 10 oz, 5 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz and ½ oz sizes.
The front side of the coin depicts a large pig standing on a grass field with four piglets below. The Chinese character for pig can be seen on the left outer edge of the coin. “Year of the Pig” is inscripted on the bottom outer edge. The letter “P”, which stands for the Perth Mint, is engraved to the right of the pig.
The reverse side shows the portrait of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The portrait of the Queen was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The inscriptions around the outer edge are; the name of the regent “ELIZABETH II”; the country of origin “AUSTRALIA”; the nominal value of “1 DOLLAR”; the year of issue “2019” and the weight and purity “1 OZ 9999 Ag”.
