The Lunar Monkey silver coin has a typical edge bar and rippled edge. Both elements have not only an aesthetic reason, but also a practical function. First, the design of the rippled edge and edge bar is a little higher, which acts to protect the motif. Secondly, the stackability of the coin is improved.
The front of the coin depicts an adult and a young monkey sitting on a branch. The young monkey is looking at a piece fruit in his hand. Next to the adult monkey the Mint Mark "P" which stands for Perth Mint can be seen. Directly to the right below the young monkey the sign "IJ" is imprinted, which represents the artist Ing Ing Jong. Below is the name in English, "Year of the Monkey", above the motif the Chinese characters for Monkey are engraved. Around the edge bar fine and uneven lines are imprinted. These lines show only on the front of the coin.
As usual with Commonwealth gold and silver coins, Queen Elizabeth II the regent of the United Kingdom is displayed. The Queen is shown in profile with diadem on her head and earring. Below is the name of the artist Ian Rank Broadle with the initials "IRB" stamped.
The following inscription can be seen on the back:
- Elisabeth II
- 1oz 999 Silver
- $ 1
History of Lunar II Silver Coin
The first edition of the Lunar II silver coin series was issued in the year of 2008. It is the successor of the Lunar 1 which was first coined in 1999. The theme of the series is the lunisolar calendar of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs.
The following zodiac signs are seen on the silver coins.
The renowned Perth Mint was established in 1896 as a branch of the Royal Mint London. The Perth Mint is known for its wide range of products and as a manufacturer of the largest gold coin in the world.
Furthermore, the famous Sovereign gold coin, which is considered the most embossed gold coin in the world, was also partially influenced by the Perth Mint. The company is located in Perth / Australia.
Buyers of silver coins should pay attention to the current price of silver as it is the main price determining component of the final price of the silver coin. Next to the silver price the premium will be added to the silver coin which results in the final buying price.
As with any investment, the right entry point is vital for success. So be sure you have familiarized yourself with the recent price action to determine a good time to buy. Silver coins should be handled very carefully, because pure silver is very soft and therefore susceptible to scratching.
