The Krugerrand is one of the best selling gold coin coins in the world. Since its introduction in 1967, over 50 million ounces of Gold Krugerrands have been sold worldwide.
In 2017, the South African Mint introduced the Krugerrand premium silver coin, which was a collector coin. And now in 2018 the Mint has released the first ever bullion edition of the Krugerrand 1 oz silver coin.
The 2018 Krugerrand Silver coin contains 1 ounce of 99.9% pure silver and is produced by the South African Mint.
This is the first time the mint has issued a bullion edition of the Krugerrand 1 oz Silver coin.
Each Silver coin comes in brilliant uncirculated condition and has the same classic design as the Gold Krugerrand.
The motif side of the coin depicts the Springbok Antelope, which is the national animal of South Africa. The design was created by African Sculptor Coert Steynberg. Along the top outer edge is the name of the coin “KRUGERRAND”. Below the motif is the fine weight and metal engraved as “FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1”. The date of issue is spilt on the left and right of the Antelope as “20” and “18”.
The reverse side shows the left side portrait of Paul Kruger, the former President of the Republic of South Africa. The portrait was created in 1984 by Otto Schultz. The engravings around the outer edge are “SUID-AFRIKA” and “SOUTH AFRICA”. The coin edge is reeded and slightly raised which protects the coin surface. There is also an ornamental circle the surrounds the edge on both sides of the coin.
