The predecessor of the "Howling Wolves" edition is the 2015 "Canadian Grey Wolf” ¾ oz silver coin. Both coins are commissions of US bullion company APMEX and produced by the renowned Royal Canadian Mint. Both coins are similar in design, only the edge rod differs. The Royal Canadian Mint is one of the most respected mints in the world. In addition to manufacturing the world famous Maple Leaf gold and Maple Leaf silver coins, the mint also produces the Canadian Dollar as a well as many other global currencies.
The silver coins have two different security features, which are located on the obverse. First, there is a small laser-engraved maple leaf, which is located directly below the motif of the wolves with the year "16". The so called laser engam can be seen only under magnification. The second security feature are the radial lines from the center of the coin that make it difficult to counterfeit silver coins. The 2016 Howling Wolves silver coin has a rippled edge and a very wide edge bar that distinguishes the silver coin from the previous “Canadian Grey Wolf" 2015 ¾ oz silver coin. The edge bar has the task of giving the coin stability and improve stackability.
The front shows a motif of two howling wolves at full moon. The security feature in the form of a maple leaf with the letters "MB", which stand for the designer Maurade Baynton can be seen below the motif. Below the image of the wolves the fineness of the silver coin "9999" is stamped. The edge-sided labels show the Country "Canada", the year of issue "2016", the metal "Fine Silver Argent Pur" and the fine weight "¾ oz".
The back is very elegant showing Queen Elizabeth II. The inscription above the motif is "Elizabeth II". Below close to the edge the nominal value of "2 Dollars" is stamped.
