The 1998 Panda Gold Coin here is in brilliant uncirculated quality and sold in the original sealed packing. Several Chinese mints can produce the Panda gold coins. Chinese mints usually do not employ mintmarks. Minor changes in size of writing occur when more than one mint is used. This year has large and small sized dates on the obverse, indicating the different mints.
These gold coins are most popular to worldwide collectors and investors for the very attractive panda designs. The design of the panda changes every year. Panda gold coins are tax free. It should be noted that Panda gold coins are not sold domestically within China. The 99.9 troy oz fine gold coins are only produced for foreign sale.
Chinese characters are shown inside the outer ring on the top reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. Within the inner ring is a picture of the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in the Temple of Heaven. The year of issue “1998“ is shown at the bottom within the outer ring under the Temple design.
One adult Panda sitting on a rock leaning on its right paw and holding a small bamboo branch with its left paw. Behind the panda are two bamboo branches. Above the panda’s head are shown metric purity “999“ and displaying size “Au 1 oz”. Above the right paw are the numbers 100 and symbol for Yuan.

A total of 20,507 coins were minted with large and small dates on the obverse.
The 1998 1 oz coin has 32mm diameter.
It has a thickness of 2.70mm.
