Several Chinese mints can produce the Panda gold coins and Chinese mints usually do not employ mintmarks. Changes in the size of writing or numerals occur when more than one mint was used. This is the last year of current 1982 design of the Hall of Prayers for Abundant Harvest in the Temple of Heaven before it changes in 1992. Chinese characters are shown above the Hall reading "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China. The year of issue „1991“is shown at the bottom under the Temple design.
An adult Panda sits on a rock by a river and eats bamboo with its feet in the rippling water. Above the panda motif Chinese characters display size, 1, then metric purity „.999“ and „1 oz Au.“ Below the panda to the left is the nominal value 100 and the symbol for Yuan.
