New Appearance

The 2017 edition commemorates 20 years of Britannia Silver coins, therefore a new design was chosen. The new motif shows a radiating sunburst emanating from the back center of the coin. These intricate lines also act as a security feature that prevents counterfeiting.

In addition, both sides of the Britannia 1oz 2017 feature ornamental circles with half rectangles connected to the edge bar.

Front

The main motif shows the image of Goddess Britannia wearing a fluttering robe and a Corinthian Helmet. She is depicted standing confidently, armed with trident in her right hand and with a shield and an olive branch in her left hand.

The olive branch is commonly associated with freedom. The label on the front depicts the name of the coin, the year 2017, the fine weight of 1oz, the fineness of 999 and the words "Fine Silver".

Back

The back side of the Britannia 2017 Silver coin displays the most recent and fifth portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by artist Jody Clark. The initials “JC” can be seen at the bottom of representation. The inscription around the ornamental circle reads:

ELIZABETH II D G

REG F D

2 POUNDS

History of Britannia Silver Coin

The Britannia silver coin series was introduced in 1997. The 2017 edition commemorates the 20 year anniversary.

From 1997 to 2012 the Silver Britannia had a fineness of 958/1000 which was increased to 999/1000 in 2013. With the increased level of purity, the Silver Britannia now ranks as one of the top investment coins globally.

The only advantage of the “old” lower fineness of 958/1000 is a better scratch resistance due to the copper content.

Manufacturer: Royal Mint

Founded in 886 the Royal Mint is one of the oldest mints in the world. Originally located in the Tower of London, the Royal Mint was moved to Llantrisant in 1976, which lies a few kilometers away from Cardiff.

The most famous director of the Royal Mint was Sir Isaac Newton. In addition to the Britannia 1oz 2017, the Royal Mint also produces the famous Gold Sovereign and Britannia Gold Coin series.

Tips: VAT Free Britannia Silver Coins

For UK citizens Britannia 1oz silver coins are Capital Gains exempt in the UK. In addition to this tax advantage, all EU investors can buy the 2017 Silver Britannia VAT free from our Estonian branch.

Before buying, silver investors should familiarize themselves with the silver price drivers. These factors include supply and demand and current price trends. Silver prices tend to be more volatile than gold.

As a result, a good investment strategy to consider is to take advantage of short term price drops. Meaning a potential investment should be spread over several smaller transactions to take advantage of short term price fluctuations.

Silver investors can also take advantage of volume discounts when buying larger quantities of the Britannia.

Pure silver coins, like the Britannia 1oz 2017, should be left in the original packaging and tubes. Silver by its nature is a very soft precious metal and susceptible to surface scratches.
