Appearance

The Kangaroo 1oz Silver Coin 2018 has a corrugated edge and an edge bar, which increases the stability of the coin. Both features give the coin a visual counterfeit protection as the separation of silver parts can be recognized immediately.

The Kangaroo 1oz Silver Coin has another safety feature in the form of a laser-engraved "A", which stands for Australia and can be seen only under the magnifying glass in the letter "A" of the label "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO". The motifs of the front and back are surrounded by a wide border, which is filled with wavy lines and provide a circular margin for the motif.

Front

On the front you can see the motif of a giant red kangaroo, which was used in the 1990 edition of the first Kangaroo Gold Coin. The bouncing giant kangaroo pictured here is in front of a radiant Australian sun emanating from the center of the coin. The motif was designed by Australian coin designer Stuart Devlin.

Around the top outer edge is the name of the coin  "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO". On the right is the letter "P" which is the official embossing mark of the Perth Mint. And in the lower part is the issue year "2018", the fine weight "1 oz", fineness "9999" and the precious metal "SILVER ".

Back

The reverse side of the coin depicts a picture of the British Queen Elizabeth II, who, as the head of the Commonwealth, can be found on all official coins of the member states. The portrait was designed by artist Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998 and shows the queen in profile with wavy hair, diadem and pearl earring. Here, too, the motif is surrounded by a frame with a wave structure in which the name of the depicted "ELIZABETH II", the issuing country "AUSTRALIA" and the nominal value "1 DOLLAR" are imprinted.

Story

In 1986, the Perth Mint introduced the Kangaroo Gold coin. In a short period of time, the Kangaroo became one of the top selling gold bullion coins in the world. The silver version of the Kangaroo was first launched in 2015 and has been a huge success with investors.

The Perth Mint has one of the best selections of silver bullion products for investors. In addition to the Kangaroo, the Perth Mint also manufactures the Koala Silver Coin (Introduced in 2007) and the Kookaburra Silver Coin (Introduced in 1990). With the growing demand of silver bullion products for investors Perth Mint silver coins are an excellent choice to consider.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Kangaroo 1oz silver coins are recognized worldwide and can be bought and sold almost everywhere.

  • The coin has a high level of purity with a fineness of 999.9/1000.

  • Silver is both a precious metal and an industrial metal. As a result, silver is in high demand and used in many leading edge applications.

  • A disadvantage, however, is the high scratch sensitivity due to the pure silver content.

  • Another disadvantage of silver bullion coins is the VAT rate, which can be partially circumvented by the purchase of silver coins under the differential margin scheme. To learn more about buying silver in the European Union please visit www.celticgold.eu.
